What This Course Covers

If you work or spend time outdoors, a solid understanding of first aid is crucial. When professional help is far away, knowing how to treat injuries or sustain life can make all the difference.

In Alpine environments the rescue services are very efficient and can get to casualties swiftly but in the first moments of a traumatic injury or serious illness, time is critical. Prompt medical intervention significantly impacts the likelihood of survival and recovery, in outdoor environments, that medical intervention and potentially extended care, is initially going to come from a first aider.

The course will be run by Indie Lyndale who is an experienced IML, outdoor instructor and qualified teacher. She worked as a college lecturer and then went on to be an outdoor instructor and IML working for many years in Morzine and the Pyrenees taking clients snowshoeing and mountain walking. She has also worked freelance for Plas y Brenin and Glenmore Lodge, training and assessing IML’s and is a former President of BAIML. She is one of the founders of First Aid Education and has spent much time developing the outdoor courses both in the UK and abroad.

We’ve spent years refining our outdoor courses, earning a strong reputation for delivering training that is both engaging and highly relevant. Our Outdoor First Aid courses are designed by our lead instructors, who bring experience from international mountaineering and tactical conflict medicine. The course is highly practical, using scenario-based training to reinforce key concepts, build genuine confidence, and empower participants to respond effectively in emergencies.

Challenging and high-stress situations can become even more dangerous in extreme environments or unpredictable weather. Having the right skills can save your life — and the lives of those around you.

This qualification surpasses the national standard 16-hour outdoor course requirements and is recognised by all major outdoor governing bodies for instructor certification. If you’re unsure which qualification suits your profession, we encourage you to contact your governing body or reach out to us directly.
